Types of Food Storage Containers
Glass Food Containers
Glass food storage containers offer a great seal for long term food storage. They are generally sturdy, but won’t survive a drop onto a hard surface.
Glass is impermeable and scratch-safe even after years of use. It’s also easy to see the food inside since it’s transparent. There are glass containers that store food and can be used to heat it up without needing any cookware. One interesting point to consider when buying glass food containers are their weight. For the most part glass containers are more expensive too.

Plastic Food Containers

Plastic Bags
Plastic bags come in many sorts and sizes. They are available in sealable and non-sealable bags. They range in size from a smaller than a candy bar to an enormous 2 gallon size. There are plastic bags made especially to store food in the freezer that are produced using a heavier plastic material to help prevent moisture loss.
Plastic bags can be used to store many kinds of food, regardless of whether at room temperature, in the fridge, or in the freezer. A plastic bag may not store as conveniently as a plastic or glass container, yet their flexibility allows them to be fit into a space that a plastic or glass container would not fit. That ability to fit into different spaces, like packed within a bug out bag, is the main advantage of plastic bags for food storage. Having a supply of plastic bag available occupies little room in contrast with plastic or glass container.

Stainless Steel Food Containers
Stainless steel containers are timeless and durable. Most of these containers have plastic or silicone lids to tightly seal the containers to keep the food’s freshness. These containers are super durable and help your food to keep fresh for a longer time when refrigerated.
Stainless steel is non-toxic, will not stain, will not retain flavor or smell, and doesn’t respond to acidic food sources- making it valuable for storing any kind of food.
Always remember this container can’t be microwaved! They are also a bit expensive, and compared with a glass — you won’t be able to see what’s inside it, so labels are a must!
Ceramic Food Containers

Acrylic Food Containers
Acrylic food containers are a sort of plastic. These food containers are BPA-free, which is a necessity. It’s not easy for these containers to break, they’re tough and drop-proof.
Acrylic food containers are transparent, so you can see what’s inside without opening the cover. Some acrylic food containers are made with distinct sections, which are ideally suited for packed meals. It’s mostly suggested that acrylic food containers should not be placed in microwaves or washed in the dishwasher

Vacuum Pouches
Regardless of whether you’re planning to just save food for next week or preserve it long-term, a vacuum-tight pouch is a good choice. It is airtight seal and does not spoil the freshness and flavors, allows food to last much longer, and results in less money spent on food containers.
Air is the main reason that causes the food to spoil and these vacuum pouches eliminate all it and uses
heat for its tight seal. These pouches are transparent, so you’ll know precisely what’s inside in each one pouches. The machines are very easy to use at home. Hopefully we will get our hands on one and review it!

Metal Cans
Metal cans are best for sauces and soups. Metal cans are airtight which helps preserve food for a very long time. Just check out those expiration dates on the cans in your kitchen!
These food containers aren’t designed for microwave use, so you’ll need a heat source to cook anything canned. We’ve always wanted to get our hands on a canning machine, so look forward to that post!

Aluminum Food Containers
Aluminum containers are typically disposable. However, these kinds of food containers can be reused as well by the thrifty. This kind of container is affordable since it is lightweight and aluminum containers are relatively easy to find.
There are heaps of sizes available depending on your need. You can use an aluminum container to cook or prepare food and also to store the food.
The downside of aluminum containers is that they are not intended to keep for a long time and not designed for heating food in microwave.
Custom Food Containers
Many of these container styles are available in different varieties including lunch containers, water bottles, jars, pitchers, and many more. They come with all sorts of interesting features like gripper edges, different sealing methods, rugged construction, etc. There is no one-size-fits-all solution, so feel free to think outside the box.
For choosing your food storage containers, you can start by using a few that you’re 100% comfortable storing your food with. Eventually, start experimenting with the other containers. You can ask some friends, check with the Prepper community, or see what we have to say. It might take a while, but it’s very important to find out if you are storing food in the right container.
